Our Story
For Mark and Justine, the co-founders of Petasure, the idea came after becoming aware of the sheer volume of the lost and stolen pets that are admitted to shelters every year cannot be reunited with their families, many due to microchip issues.
It is against the law not to have your cat or dog microchipped, and with good reason – but if your pet is amongst those that turn up at a shelter or vets after getting lost or stolen, over 55,000 every year cannot be identified or reunited with their owners. The most common reasons are record errors or incorrect/out-of-date contact details (keeping these up to date is also required by law), but in some cases, microchips are removed by thieves or cannot be scanned due to migration or other issues. Woodgreen Animal Shelter admitted in 2024 that 75% of the admitted dogs that year could not be reunited with their families due to microchip issues.
